1 Day/night design switches in a component tray Selective paint removal applications, also known as night and day marking, are very demanding applications found in various industries such as in the design of a car's interior. Night and Day marking allows the user to see the graphic both in day light and at night time through back illumination. This application insight looks at night and day marking of different materials including ABS and silicone rubber. It shows how the marking process is achieved, focusing on the Pulsed Fiber Laser, and the benefits of using it for this specific application.

4 Laser marking on a level sensor The carbon in the sensor's plastic oxidizes to CO2, which emerges from the plastic and forms a foam layer. Depending on the composition, the color change is either bright or dark. Dark plastics turn white at the points to be marked, while bright plastics turn either gray or black.
